BKV Corporation has expanded its U.S. carbon capture and storage (CCS) business from Barnett Zero, which began injecting carbon dioxide (CO₂) in November 2023, to three operating facilities it developed in Texas. Cotton Cove in the Fort Worth Basin and an Eagle Ford facility near Freer entered commercial operation in 2026. BKV says the two newer facilities are expected to store more than 120,000 metric tons of CO₂ annually combined. In September, BKV also acquired a separate operating Barnett CCS project with a CO₂ pipeline and injection well.
OilGasLeads.com’s BKV well and air permit datasets show how that strategy appears in field activity. Three wells identified as injection wells align by project name and county with air permit records for Cotton Cove CCS 1 in Tarrant County, Lima Tango CCS 1 in McMullen County and Roadrunner CCS in Houston County. A U.S. Environmental Protection Agency monitoring plan identifies Lima Tango as the injection well intended to store CO₂ from the Las Tiendas natural gas processing plant near Freer, linking it to BKV’s Eagle Ford development.
The Roadrunner well and air permit records provide a clear signal of CCS development in East Texas. BKV has announced a separate East Texas project, reported drilling its injection well during the second quarter of 2026, and previously targeted approximately 70,000 metric tons of CO₂ capture per year there. BKV has not publicly confirmed in the sources reviewed that Roadrunner is the name of that announced project. The datasets also contain conventional Barnett well-pad activity, which should be evaluated separately from dedicated CCS wells.
Industry Impact
BKV’s operating projects show how gas processing, compression and underground storage can be integrated into existing U.S. energy infrastructure. That capability supports the “safe barrel” case for reliable domestic supply with measured action on emissions, while creating service demand beyond drilling. BKV’s goal of a 1.5 million metric ton annual CO₂ injection rate by 2028 remains a development target subject to financing, commercial agreements and permits.

OFS teams should separate operating-facility opportunities at Barnett Zero, Cotton Cove and Eagle Ford from project-development opportunities indicated by Roadrunner. Target compression, well integrity, monitoring, instrumentation and facility maintenance at operating sites. For developing sites, track injection-well work, construction contracts and commissioning milestones before assigning near-term revenue.
