Ovintiv has agreed to acquire Logan Energy Corp. for approximately C$1.26 billion (US$890 million), including assumed net debt, expanding its oil-focused Montney position. The transaction adds approximately 20,000 BOE/d of production, 266,000 net acres and 420 net potential oil drilling locations, alongside oil batteries and natural gas processing interests.
For oilfield service companies, Logan’s drilling history provides another way to assess the transaction. OilGasLeads’ supplied dataset contains 38 Logan drilling records since 2023, showing where activity has concentrated, which formations were targeted and which drilling contractors supported the program.

Logan’s Drilling History Shows a Strong Montney Focus
Of the 38 records, 32 identify the Montney Formation as the terminating zone, representing approximately 84% of the dataset. One record identifies the Duvernay Formation, one the Wilrich Member, and four have no terminating zone listed. Substance classifications show 27 crude oil records, seven gas records and four unspecified.
Activity is concentrated in a small number of fields:
Field, as recorded Drilling records GORDONDAL 18 SMOKY 7 SIMONETTE 5 Other named fields 4 Not provided 4 Total 38
Gordondal and Smoky together account for approximately 66% of records. This historical concentration complements Ovintiv’s stated acquisition rationale: adding oil and condensate production, infrastructure and drilling inventory near its existing Montney operations.
The dataset covers Logan’s historical activity and should not be treated as a confirmed list of wells transferring to Ovintiv. Selected assets outside the Montney and Duvernay fairways will be spun out to Logan shareholders through Logan Oil Corp.
Contractor Data Adds a Supplier Perspective
The records identify eight distinct contractor-and-rig combinations. Savanna 656 accounts for 17 records, followed by Horizon 43 with six and Stampede 21 with four. Savanna 687 and Twilight 4 each account for three, Ensign 60 and Twilight 2 each have two, and Precision 205 has one.
These figures establish historical participation in Logan’s drilling program. They provide useful account intelligence for suppliers assessing the transition, although they do not establish current rig assignments or future contract awards.

Infrastructure and Cost Targets Shape the Opportunity
The acquisition includes two Simonette oil batteries with combined capacity of 24,000 bbl/d, plus interests in gas processing facilities at Simonette and Pouce Coupe. Ovintiv expects approximately US$60 million in annual cost synergies, including capital savings exceeding US$2 million per well.
For OFS companies, the opportunity combines substantial drilling inventory with infrastructure that could support future development. However, Ovintiv’s cost targets suggest suppliers will face pressure to demonstrate efficiency and competitive pricing. The transaction is expected to close early in Q1 2027, subject to required approvals, with future activity dependent on Ovintiv’s capital allocation.
