Gulf Coast Sequestration Advances Louisiana Carbon Storage Projects—OFS Opportunities at Minerva and Goose Lake

Gulf Coast Sequestration (GCS) is a privately held carbon-storage developer focused on southwest Louisiana and the industrial corridor extending into southeast Texas. Its principal opportunities are the Minerva and Goose Lake sequestration projects, which could create demand for drilling, well construction, monitoring and surface infrastructure services. Public information reviewed shows development and permitting activity; it does not establish that commercial CO₂ injection has begun.

Projects and major announcements

DateProject or announcementDetails and significance
November 2022Climeworks agreementGCS and Climeworks signed an MOU targeting permanent removal and storage of 1 million tons of atmospheric CO₂ annually by 2030, with potential expansion. This was an announced development objective.
August 2023Project CypressGCS was announced as the storage partner for the Battelle, Climeworks and Heirloom team following DOE selection for funding negotiations.
October 2024Cypress storage arrangements changedClimeworks subsequently announced CapturePoint Solutions as its transportation and storage partner for Project Cypress Southwest. The earlier GCS announcement should therefore be treated as historical, rather than evidence of a current secured Cypress contract.
June–July 2026Minerva—Cameron ParishPublic permit materials described two proposed Class VI injection wells, Minerva South CCS Nos. 001 and 002. A public hearing was held July 23, 2026. September reporting said the state was preparing its final decision.
August–September 2026Goose Lake—Calcasieu ParishGCS pursued a coastal use permit for two Class V testing wells and one drinking-water monitoring well near the Cameron–Calcasieu parish boundary. A public hearing was scheduled for September 2, 2026. This represents site evaluation and permitting activity, rather than confirmation of operating storage capacity.

Current development assessment

Minerva is the clearest near-term project to monitor. Its two-well proposal progressed through technical review and public consultation in 2026. However, the permit document located is labelled a draft, so I could not confirm a final Class VI authorization or commercial injection startup from the sources reviewed. Goose Lake also remains a permitting and appraisal opportunity.

Earlier GCS publicity discussed a broader hub ambition of 10 million tons annually and an anticipated 2024 launch. Those figures are historical targets and should not be presented as current operating capacity or a confirmed schedule. Press Release

OFS sales implications

Based on the announced well scope, the strongest potential opportunities are:

  • Appraisal and construction: drilling, coring, logging, formation testing, casing, cementing and wellheads.
  • Surface development: CO₂ piping, valves, instrumentation, electrical systems and automation.
  • Long-term operations: mechanical integrity testing, corrosion management, groundwater monitoring and subsurface surveillance.

These are inferred sales opportunities, not confirmed contract awards. For account targeting, prioritize Minerva’s final permit decision and drilling schedule, followed by Goose Lake’s test-well approvals and contractor selection.
