The US drilling rig count dropped 2 units to reach 586 rigs working for the week ended Aug. 16, according to Baker Hughes data. The count is down 56 units from the 642 rigs working this time a year ago.
The Baker Hughes U.S. rig count has gone up three out of the last four weeks, including last week, when it went up by two to 588.
U.S. energy firms this week cut the number of oil and natural gas rigs operating for the first time in three weeks, energy services firm Baker Hughes said in its closely followed report on Friday.
The latest Baker Hughes report indicates a slight increase in the total number of active oil and gas rigs across the United States, despite some regional declines.
