Kinder Morgan (KMI) said Friday it received approval from the U.S. Department of Energy to increase exports from the Elba Island LNG export plant in Georgia to as much as an additional 28.25 Bcf/year to non-free trade agreement countries.
The company is now authorized to export up to an additional 22% of liquefied natural gas compared to its prior authorization of 130 Bcf/year.
The 2.5M metric tons/year liquefaction plant, which has been exporting LNG since 2019, is “positioned to export the additional approved volumes immediately,” the DoE said.
“At a time when global energy supply routes face disruption, the United States remains a reliable energy partner to our allies and trading partners,” the DoE said.
