Baker Hughes Wins Major Equipment Contracts for Cheniere’s Sabine Pass LNG Expansion

Baker Hughes has secured a series of contracts to supply critical equipment and lifecycle services for the expansion of Cheniere Energy’s Sabine Pass liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. The awards, issued during the second quarter by Bechtel Energy and Cheniere, support both the construction of a new liquefaction train and efficiency improvements across the existing terminal.

A key component of the work involves supplying seven PGT25+ G4 gas turbines and 15 centrifugal compressors for Sabine Pass Train 7. Once operational, Train 7 is expected to increase the facility’s LNG production capacity by more than 6 million tonnes per annum (mtpa). Baker Hughes will also install a boil-off gas re-liquefaction system and execute a four-year program to upgrade the site’s existing fleet of PGT25+ G4 gas turbines, improving power output and supporting operations across the terminal’s current production capacity of approximately 30 mtpa.

The contracts build on Cheniere’s ongoing expansion strategy following the award of the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for Phase One of the Sabine Pass Liquefaction (SPL) Stage V Expansion Project to Bechtel Energy earlier this year. The latest equipment orders are intended to improve plant reliability, increase operational efficiency, and support long-term LNG production as global natural gas demand continues to grow.

For suppliers and contractors, the project represents continued investment in one of North America’s largest LNG export facilities. Opportunities remain across rotating equipment, maintenance, instrumentation, automation, construction support, engineering services, and long-term operations and maintenance as the expansion progresses over the coming years.

Industry Impact

The Sabine Pass expansion reinforces the continued growth of U.S. LNG export infrastructure and highlights sustained capital investment in Gulf Coast energy projects. For operators, equipment manufacturers, engineering firms, and industrial service providers, large-scale LNG developments continue to generate long-term opportunities throughout the natural gas value chain while strengthening North America’s role in global LNG supply.
