Kinder Morgan reached final investment decisions on two U.S. natural gas pipeline projects during Q3 2026, committing $4.7 billion as its share of joint venture investments. The Southeast Connector and Permian Link projects address growing demand from power generation and support a broader expansion portfolio serving data centres, industrial customers and liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports. The company’s backlog now totals $14.4 billion, including $13.2 billion in natural gas projects.

Through Southern Natural Gas, the Southeast Connector would deliver up to 2.6 billion cubic feet per day across approximately 470 miles of new pipelines. Kinder Morgan’s expected investment is $3.1 billion. The development targets southeastern U.S. customers, with phased completion beginning in Q4 2030, subject to regulatory approvals.
The Permian Link, developed through Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America, would add approximately 2.8 billion cubic feet per day of transportation capacity across 434 miles. Total project cost is estimated at $4.2 billion, including Kinder Morgan’s $1.6 billion share. Long-term transportation agreements underpin the project, which supports new power generation and targets Q3 2030 service, pending approvals.
Kinder Morgan also sanctioned additional phases of its Creekside Lateral in Texas, bringing total investment to approximately $235 million to serve data centre and industrial customers. Together, these commitments show how electricity demand is advancing gas infrastructure investment. The stated capacities represent transportation capability, rather than announced increases in gas production.
Industry Impact
The projects strengthen the infrastructure behind dependable North American energy supply. The U.S. “Safe Barrel” position—supplying energy from an established domestic resource base—depends on transportation capacity as well as production. These gas investments support that broader energy-security role, while creating opportunities for pipeline construction, compression, engineering and equipment suppliers.
Two-Sentence Summary
Kinder Morgan approved $4.7 billion as its share of two pipeline projects designed to provide a combined 5.4 billion cubic feet per day of gas transportation capacity, with service targeted for 2030. The investments support growing power demand and create multiyear opportunities for infrastructure suppliers, subject to permitting and construction milestones.
