Midland, Martin and Howard counties were the top-three producing counties in the state in April, according to the Railroad Commission of Texas.
And the three combined to produce 38.732 million barrels, according to preliminary production information from the RRC. That was 35.5% of the preliminary production total statewide.

The RRC also reported:
- Midland County alone accounted for 16.869 million barrels or 15.4% of the statewide total in April,
- Midland and Martin counties combined for 31.388 million barrels or 28.7% (more than a quarter of the preliminary production statewide),
- Nine counties in the Permian Basin were among the 10 highest-producing counties and made up 62.8% of the 108.89 million barrels of oil produced statewide.
The Railroad Commission preliminarily reported 107.196 million barrels in April 2022. The updated total that month was 126.278 million barrels.
Reeves County again was first with 76.975 billion cubic feet of natural gas produced in April. Webb County was a close second with 76.941 billion, and Midland County was third with 63.237 billion. The RRC reported six Permian Basin counties in the top 10 statewide. Statewide, the RRC showed preliminary production of 876.531 billion cubic feet of natural gas produced in April.
In April 2022 the preliminary production of gas was 813.134 billion cubic feet. The updated total was 960.587 billion cubic feet.
