Western Canada Pipeline Construction Detail

Pipeline permits include gathering or transport pipelines of a liquid, gas or oil through a system of pipes. In addition to these main types of pipelines, there are also four other sub-categories of pipelines: Gathering Lines, Feeder Lines, Transmission Pipelines and Distribution Pipelines. The permits represent all types of pipelines. This section shows pipeline permits that have a new construction component. (Pipeline Construction Western Canada Aug 25, 2022 report date )

Petroleum pipelines transport oil, oil products and natural gas. In addition to these two main types of pipelines, there are also four other sub-categories of pipelines: Gathering Lines, Feeder Lines, Transmission Pipelines and Distribution Pipelines. The permits represent all types of pipelines.

Pipeline Project Details

ADVANTAGE ENERGY LTD.- Permit #60,957- 5.22KM – Pipeline to satellite

Advantage’s Montney assets are located from approximately 4 – 80km northwest of the city of Grande Prairie, Alberta. Advantage’s land holdings consist of 210 net sections (134,400 acres) of liquids-rich Montney lands at Glacier, Valhalla, Progress and Pipestone/Wembley. Management estimates a future drilling inventory of >1,400 horizontal well locations. Total estimated capital expenditures over the life of the project could exceed $10 billion with associated reserves and production growth. Production has grown to 45,000 boe/d.

All the areas have potential for liquids-rich and multi-layer development. Since 2008, production has grown to approximately 300 mmcfe/d (50,000 boe/d) and 2P reserves have increased to 3.2 Tcfe (532 million Boe) at December 31, 2020. Upper, Middle & Lower Montney wells generate strong half-cycle rates of return at $2.50/mcf Cdn AECO prices and $55 US/bbl WTI pricing, and have low break-even prices.

ARC RESOURCES LTD. – #59,535- 4.75KM – Well to pipeline

Kakwa region is located in the lower interval of the Triassic Montney formation and future development drilling can be sustained for years. This area is considered to have low break-even commodity prices and a favourable balance of natural gas and liquids relative to other North American tight, liquids-rich natural gas plays. The size of this inventory has the potential to expand over time as exploration validates the development potential of other geologic formations. Wells in the Kakwa region have exhibited high production rates of natural gas, condensate and other NGLs. This region is served year-round by a vibrant oil and natural gas service sector in the city of Grande Prairie.

ATCO GAS AND PIPELINES LTD. – #2,027- 49.36KM – Well to pipeline – Lethbridge

As part of the Lethbridge Urban Pipeline Upgrades program, ATCO Gas and Pipelines Ltd. proposes to install approximately 9 km of new pipeline in the White Area of Alberta, east of the City of Lethbridge. The Project footprint crosses the Agriculture and Agri-Food Lethbridge Research and Development Center lands.

The horizontal directionally drilled project includes a proposed surface lease that will contain two 5mx10m buildings and other required equipment/piping. The station surface lease will be fenced (40mx45m), and include a new 10m permanent access road.

PARAMOUNT RESOURCES LTD. – #49,746 – 5.9KM – Pipeline to gas processing plant – GRANDE PRAIRIE

The primary focus in the Grande Prairie Region is the Karr and Wapiti Montney properties, located southeast of Grande Prairie, Alberta, in the over-pressured, liquids-rich Deep Basin Montney trend.

As at December 31, 2021, Paramount had approximately 230,000 gross (176,000 net) acres of land in the Grande Prairie Region, including approximately 100,000 net acres of Montney rights and approximately 65,000 net acres of Deep Basin Cretaceous rights, which partially overlap the Montney rights.

Sales volumes for this Region averaged 54,737 Boe/d in the first quarter of 2022 (comprised of 151.4 MMcf/d of shale gas, 1.1 MMcf/d of conventional natural gas, 29,309 Bbl/d of NGLs and 6 Bbl/d of crude oil).

ASPENLEAF ENERGY LIMITED – #57,752 – 2.4KM – Satellite to battery – ST. ALBERT

Aspenleaf Energy Limited is a private oil and gas exploration and production company that is pursuing an acquisition and exploitation strategy in western Canada. The company is focused on light oil and liquids-rich gas opportunities and is led by a team of seasoned industry professionals with extensive acquisition and operations experience.

Spirit River Formation contains important gas reservoirs in Alberta’s Deep Basin. The productive Falher Member consists of non-marine clastics and coals south of the Elmworth field. The Spirit River Formation is a stratigraphical unit of middle Albian age in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. It takes the name from the Spirit River, and was first described in Imperial Oil Spirit River No. 1 well by Badgley in 1952.
