SLB and Liberty Energy Expand Into AI Data Center Power Market

SLB and Liberty Energy have entered into a strategic alliance to provide modular infrastructure and power generation systems for new artificial intelligence (AI) data center developments. The partnership combines SLB’s engineering, project execution, and global delivery capabilities with Liberty Energy’s expertise in modular natural gas power generation, behind-the-meter power controls, and field operations.

The companies plan to offer integrated energy solutions that help data center developers secure reliable electricity outside of traditional utility grids. In addition to delivering modular power systems, the alliance will collaborate on technologies designed to improve the efficiency, flexibility, and environmental performance of future energy infrastructure supporting AI workloads. Behind-the-meter power generation allows facilities to produce electricity on-site, improving reliability while reducing dependence on grid capacity that is increasingly constrained in many North American markets.

The scale of the initiative reflects the growing energy demand created by hyperscale computing. SLB expects total deliveries for data center projects to exceed 2 gigawatts (GW) by the end of 2026, while Liberty Energy plans to deploy approximately 3 GW of power projects by 2029. Together, these projects represent one of the largest commitments by oilfield service companies to the emerging AI infrastructure market.

The agreement highlights how traditional oilfield technology and service providers are expanding beyond upstream operations into energy infrastructure. As demand for reliable, dispatchable power continues to grow, companies with expertise in modular facilities, project management, and natural gas-powered generation are positioning themselves to support a new generation of industrial customers. Equipment manufacturers, engineering firms, turbine suppliers, compression companies, and natural gas infrastructure providers may find new opportunities as investment in AI-related energy projects accelerates.

Industry Impact

The partnership underscores the expanding role of the North American energy industry in supporting AI-driven electricity demand. As hyperscale data centers require large amounts of dependable power, oil and gas companies are leveraging their engineering, infrastructure, and operational expertise to become key participants in the growing market for distributed energy solutions.
