Targa Resources continues to expand its midstream footprint across the Permian Basin with several major natural gas and NGL pipeline projects scheduled to enter service between 2026 and 2027. Key projects include the Blackcomb and Traverse natural gas pipelines, the Delaware Express NGL Pipeline, and the Speedway NGL Pipeline expansion, all designed to relieve takeaway constraints and support growing production volumes from the Midland and Delaware basins.

According to company executives, these projects will provide much-needed gas egress capacity, improve market connectivity, and support increasing NGL volumes moving to Mont Belvieu and Gulf Coast export markets. With Permian production continuing to grow despite temporary gas price-related shut-ins, Targa expects its expanding pipeline network to play a critical role in supporting producers while creating new opportunities for construction, operations, maintenance, automation, integrity, and related oilfield services companies.
Based on Targa Resources’ Q1 2026 earnings call, the company highlighted several major pipeline projects that are either under construction or expected to enter service over the next two years.
Key Pipeline Projects
| Project | Type | Capacity / Purpose | Expected In-Service |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blackcomb Pipeline | Natural Gas Pipeline | Provides Permian natural gas egress relief | Q4 2026 |
| Traverse Pipeline | Natural Gas Pipeline | Enhances market connectivity from the Permian | Mid-2027 |
| Delaware Express NGL Pipeline | NGL Pipeline | Moves NGL volumes from Permian to Mont Belvieu | Startup underway in Q2 2026 |
| Speedway NGL Pipeline | NGL Pipeline Expansion | Initial capacity of 500,000 bpd | Q3 2027 |
Blackcomb Pipeline
Targa stated that Blackcomb, in which it holds an equity interest, is expected to provide “much needed egress relief” for Permian natural gas production when it enters service in the fourth quarter of 2026. Management indicated that Blackcomb, along with other gas takeaway projects, should help alleviate the severe Waha basis weakness currently impacting Permian producers.
Traverse Pipeline
The Traverse Pipeline is expected to enter service in mid-2027 and will further improve market access for Permian gas volumes by providing additional connectivity to premium demand markets. Targa views Traverse as a key component of improving the Permian takeaway environment beyond Blackcomb.
Delaware Express NGL Pipeline
Targa reported that the Delaware Express NGL Pipeline was already in startup during Q2 2026. This project supports increasing NGL production from the Delaware Basin and feeds Targa’s downstream fractionation and export infrastructure.
Speedway NGL Pipeline
One of Targa’s largest growth projects is Speedway, a major expansion of its NGL transportation network. Key details include:
- Initial transportation capacity of 500,000 barrels per day
- Connects growing Permian NGL production to Mont Belvieu
- Designed to support increasing volumes from recently completed and newly announced processing plants
- Scheduled for Q3 2027 startup
Management noted that Speedway will be supported by:
- Four processing plants already placed into service since Speedway was announced
- Six additional processing plants currently under construction
- Growing NGL supply from Targa’s Permian footprint that will ultimately feed its fractionators and LPG export facilities.
Permian Intra-Basin Residue Projects
Targa also referenced multiple Permian intra-basin residue gas projects currently under construction. These projects are intended to:
- Increase connectivity across Targa’s gathering systems
- Improve system flexibility and reliability
- Provide customers access to multiple premium gas markets
- Support future volume growth throughout the Permian Basin.
Why These Projects Matter
Management emphasized that the Permian Basin is experiencing significant gas production growth but remains constrained by limited takeaway capacity. Targa believes the combination of:
- Blackcomb,
- Traverse,
- Delaware Express,
- Speedway,
- and related residue gas projects
will materially improve Permian gas and NGL transportation capacity beginning late 2026 and accelerating through 2027, supporting higher producer activity and stronger volumes across Targa’s integrated system.
