Jonah Energy Expands Eagle Ford Position with South Texas Asset Acquisition

Jonah Energy announced it has closed the acquisition of 100% of the interests of Grit Oil & Gas II, LLC, significantly expanding its position into the South Texas Eagle Ford region. The deal became effective October 1, 2025.

Key details from the acquisition:

  • Assets are located in Maverick and Dimmit counties, Texas.
  • The transaction includes:
    • 105,000 contiguous net acres
    • More than 300 drilling locations
    • Existing production averaging approximately 35,000 BOE/d
  • Production mix:
    • 40% oil
    • 30% NGLs
    • 30% natural gas
  • Target formations include:
    • Eagle Ford
    • Austin Chalk
    • San Miguel formations
  • Jonah also acquired both corporate and field employees as part of the transaction.

The acquisition continues Jonah Energy’s rapid expansion strategy. In roughly 18 months, the company has grown from primarily Wyoming operations into multiple basins across:

  • New Mexico
  • Oklahoma
  • Kansas
  • Ohio
  • Texas

Strategically, this is notable because:

  • South Texas still offers large undeveloped inventory in legacy Eagle Ford acreage.
  • Operators are increasingly targeting stacked-pay opportunities, especially Austin Chalk intervals alongside Eagle Ford benches.
  • The acreage appears positioned for near-term development activity.

The financing side included:

  • Fortress Credit Corp. as Sole Lead Arranger
  • Cantor Fitzgerald & Co. as Sole Structuring Advisor and Placement Agent.
