Keyera Advances Elmworth Infrastructure With Campbell Creek Gas Plant Application

Keyera Energy Ltd. continues to expand its footprint in Alberta’s liquids-rich Montney region with a new gas processing facility application in the Elmworth area west of Grande Prairie.

According to a recently filed Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) Directive 056 application, Keyera has submitted plans for the proposed Campbell Creek Gas Plant, a new sour gas processing facility designed to support growing natural gas and liquids production in the region.

Keyera is one of Canada’s leading midstream energy companies with operations focused on:

The company has continued to expand its integrated infrastructure network across western Canada, particularly in Alberta’s Montney and Deep Basin regions where producers are targeting high-value liquids-rich natural gas.

During its recent Q1 2026 earnings call, Keyera executives highlighted continued strength around its northern Alberta assets, including Wapiti and Simonette, while pointing to additional opportunities for gas processing expansion tied to LNG development and increased export capacity. Management noted that “more gas gathering and processing capacity” will be needed as western Canadian production grows.

Elmworth Continues to Attract Infrastructure Investment

The Elmworth region remains one of western Canada’s most active natural gas development areas due to its strong Montney resource potential and liquids-rich production profile.

The area has seen sustained drilling and infrastructure activity from both producers and midstream operators as companies position themselves for:

  • LNG-related natural gas demand growth,
  • increasing condensate requirements for oil sands blending,
  • and expanding NGL market opportunities.

Keyera’s proposed Campbell Creek Gas Plant appears aligned with these broader industry trends.

Campbell Creek Gas Plant Details

The AER application identifies the project as a:

“Gas processing plant >= 1 t/d sulphur inlet”

The proposed facility would be located in the Elmworth field near Grande Prairie at:

  • LSD 1-04-068-06W6
  • Latitude: 54.850928
  • Longitude: -118.840317

Design Capacity

According to the filing, the plant is designed for:

  • Raw gas inlet capacity of approximately 5.66 million m³/d
  • Condensate handling of 3,955 m³/d
  • Water handling of 6,754 m³/d
  • Sulphur inlet capacity of 384 t/d

The facility would also recover significant liquids volumes, including:

  • Sales gas,
  • C5+ liquids,
  • and LPG products.

Sour Gas Processing and Compression Infrastructure

The filing outlines a regenerative sweetening system with:

  • subsurface acid gas injection,
  • 98.5% sulphur recovery efficiency,
  • and a calculated emergency planning zone of 2.46 km.

The project also includes substantial compression infrastructure, including:

  • one gas-driven compressor,
  • 15 electric compressors,
  • and approximately 22,239 kW of total installed compression power.

Montney Growth Continues to Drive Midstream Expansion

The Campbell Creek application highlights continued investment in Alberta’s natural gas infrastructure as producers and midstream operators prepare for long-term growth tied to LNG exports, condensate demand, and liquids-rich Montney development.

With ongoing drilling activity across the Grande Prairie and Elmworth corridor, additional gas processing, compression, and liquids infrastructure projects are expected to remain a major focus area for western Canadian energy investment over the coming years.
