New Mexico has substantial reserves of both oil and natural gas. The Permian Basin, one of the most prolific oil and gas regions in the United States, extends into southeastern New Mexico. The Delaware Basin, a sub-basin of the Permian, is particularly active in the state.

Texas is home to a significant portion of the Permian Basin, one of the most prolific oil and gas regions globally. The Permian Basin extends into western Texas and southeastern New Mexico, and it has been a major contributor to the recent surge in U.S. oil production. Another important shale play in Texas is the Eagle Ford Shale, located in the southern part of the state. Texas has a substantial coastline along the Gulf of Mexico, and offshore drilling in the Gulf is a crucial component of the state’s oil and gas activities.

Oklahoma is home to several prominent oil and gas reservoirs. The state has diverse geological formations that contribute to both oil and natural gas production. Notably, the SCOOP (South Central Oklahoma Oil Province) and STACK (Sooner Trend, Anadarko Basin, Canadian, and Kingfisher Counties) plays have been important in recent years.

Louisiana has significant oil and natural gas reserves, both onshore and offshore. Onshore, the Haynesville Shale, located in the northern part of the state, is a major natural gas play. Additionally, the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale is another formation with potential for oil and gas production.

North Dakota has experienced substantial growth in oil production over the past decade, largely driven by developments in the Bakken.

Wyoming has substantial reserves of both conventional and unconventional oil and gas. The Powder River Basin and the Green River Basin are among the key regions for oil and gas exploration and production in the state.

Kansas has significant reserves of oil and natural gas, and exploration and production activities occur in various regions. The Mississippian Lime formation, for example, has been a focus of oil and gas development in the state.

Colorado is a major producer of oil and natural gas. The state has seen increased oil production from the Niobrara Formation and other formations in the Denver-Julesburg Basin. Additionally, the Piceance Basin in western Colorado is known for its natural gas resources.

Pennsylvania has become one of the leading natural gas-producing states in the United States. The Marcellus Shale has attracted substantial investment and development, contributing to both the state and national energy supply.

Utah Uinta Basin in northeastern is one of the major regions for oil and gas development in the state. It contains significant oil reserves, and extraction activities have been ongoing for many years.
