The Alberta Carbon Grid™ (ACG) is a world-scale carbon transportation and sequestration system being designed to serve multiple customers, industries, and sectors. Once fully constructed, the ACG aims to transport and sequester more than 20 million tonnes of CO2 annually – almost 10 per cent of Alberta’s industrial emissions and has an important role to play to support Alberta’s lower-carbon economy.
The Partnership
Pembina Pipeline Corporation (Pembina) and TC Energy Corporation (TC Energy) are working together to develop an open-access carbon transportation and sequestration system. Both companies have decades of experience in safe and reliable development, construction, and operations of infrastructure solutions with, and on behalf of, customers, investors, communities and employees. The ACG is part of Pembina’s and TC Energy’s ongoing commitment to energy diversification, industry collaboration, and a lower-carbon future that benefits the environment and the Alberta economy. We are excited about the potential to create an effective and strategic solution with and for these key stakeholders.

About the Project
Alberta Carbon Grid™ is designed to connect regions of large concentrations of emissions to key sequestration locations and delivery points across the province, with opportunities for further expansion.
- ACG is a carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS) project that aims to transport more than 20 million tonnes of CO2 annually – about 10 per cent of Alberta’s emissions from multiple customers, industries, and sectors
- In addition to using new assets, existing infrastructure, and a newly developed carbon sequestration hub, ACG is planned to connect the province’s largest regions of industrial emissions, for example, the Fort McMurray Alberta Industrial Heartland, Edmonton-area emitters, and the Drayton Valley region, to key sequestration locations
- As an industry-wide solution, ACG will have an impact to reduce GHG emissions and contribute positively to Alberta’s lower-carbon economy
- ACG has a vital role to play in addressing climate change by directly contributing to Alberta’s plans to create a clean hydrogen economy, enhance petrochemical facilities, and to help achieve Canada’s enhanced climate targets
- Based on initial studies, the ACG sequestration reservoir is expected to be capable of providing decades of safe and reliable CO2 storage capacity
- ACG is progressing towards an advanced stage of readiness and has the potential to be operational in advance of Canada’s enhanced 2030 emissions targets
