Company Description

Cenovus Energy Inc. is an integrated energy company headquartered in Calgary. We are committed to sustainably developing our assets in a safe, innovative and cost-efficient manner, integrating environmental, social and governance considerations into our business plans.

Operations

Conventional Business: Cenovus’s conventional oil and natural gas operations in Western Canada include rich assets in the Elmworth-Wapiti, Kaybob-Edson, Clearwater, and Rainbow Lake areas. They utilize horizontal drilling to enhance resource potential and operate several key natural gas processing facilities. The Elmworth plant and other facilities in these regions are central to their production strategy. Additionally, Cenovus has a 50 percent interest in a 90-megawatt cogeneration facility at Rainbow Lake, providing electricity and steam for operations and selling excess power to the Alberta power pool.

Heavy Oil Segment: Cenovus has been a leader in oil sands development for over two decades, using steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) technology to enhance efficiency and minimize environmental impact. Their key projects include Christina Lake, Foster Creek, and Sunrise, each noted for low steam to oil ratios and high production efficiency. Christina Lake is the largest and most efficient SAGD project, while Foster Creek was the first commercial SAGD project. Sunrise began operating in 2015, and all projects focus on technological innovation and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
