Pipeline Acquisition Alert: WBI Midstream Expands Texas Footprint with 116-Mile System from Enerfin

June 2025

WBI Midstream LLC, a subsidiary of WBI Energy and part of the MDU Resources Group, has officially acquired the Longhorn Gathering & Transmission System from Enerfin Resources II-92, adding a strategic 116-mile pipeline footprint across Archer, Clay, and Wichita Counties in Texas. The Railroad Commission of Texas granted Permit #10692 on June 10, 2025, formalizing the transfer. WBI Midstream has consolidated all the pipelines into a single permit.

🔍 What’s Included in the Deal?

The system comprises a blend of natural gas gathering and transmission assets:

  • 116.027 total permitted miles
    • 105.19 miles of unregulated gathering lines
    • 10.50 miles of regulated transmission lines
  • Multiple subsystems: Longhorn Gathering, Lantana Gathering, and Longhorn Transmission
  • Pipe diameters ranging from 2.38″ to 6.63″, with operating pressures up to 500 psig

This infrastructure was previously operated by Enerfin, a Houston-based midstream firm known for managing regional gas gathering systems.

🔁 A Strategic Pipeline Transfer

The acquisition was effective as of July 10, 2024, and documented via a new T-4 permit submission by WBI Midstream. The permit included all required components:
✅ Cover Letter
✅ PS-8000 Documentation
✅ Non-Utility Certification
✅ GIS Shapefiles and Route Maps

“This acquisition enhances our ability to serve producers in North Texas with reliable gas gathering and transmission infrastructure,” said a regulatory filing official at WBI.

📍 Why It Matters

This move signals WBI Midstream’s deeper commitment to Texas—a region seeing renewed interest due to low-cost natural gas production, infrastructure consolidation, and growing regional demand.

Key implications:

  • Expanded throughput capacity in a gas-rich corridor
  • Improved system connectivity between producers and processing markets
  • Increased operational control via new permit and regulatory oversight

🧭 Looking Ahead

With the Longhorn system now under its operational umbrella, WBI Midstream is well-positioned to:

  • Support infill drilling activity
  • Connect with new pad sites and compression stations
  • Potentially expand interconnections with intrastate and interstate pipelines
